Wander Japan: Soulful Streets to Sacred Spaces

A cultural & culinary Traveling Retreat with ADzenTURE co-founder, Azma

Some places are meant to be seen. Japan is meant to be experienced.

Welcome to Wander Japan, an intimate, thoughtfully curated journey through the heart of Japanese culture, hosted by ADzenTURE co-founder Azma.

Designed for the curious traveler, this experience invites you to discover the extraordinary in the everyday — from the art of slowing down to the beauty of simple rituals, unexpected encounters, and shared moments.

Over seven unforgettable days, we’ll explore two contrasting sides of Japan. From Tokyo’s electric energy, bustling markets, and hidden culinary gems to Kyoto’s ancient temples, peaceful gardens, and centuries-old traditions, every day offers something new to discover.

Guided by Japanese philosophies such as Ichigo Ichie (treasuring each encounter), Ma (appreciating the space between moments), and Wabi-Sabi (finding beauty in imperfection), our journey goes beyond sightseeing to explore the cultural wisdom woven into Japanese life.

We’ll sit in Zen meditation, wander through bamboo groves and historic neighborhoods, experience traditional Japanese arts, and discover a culinary landscape that ranges from lively izakayas and local street food to beautifully crafted omakase and kaiseki dining.

Expect full days of exploration on foot, spontaneous discoveries, moments of stillness, plenty of laughter, and luxurious accommodations to return to each evening.

Intentionally intimate, this small-group experience is about more than the places we visit. It’s about the connections we make, the stories we share, and the memories we create along the way.

Come with curiosity. Leave with stories, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the art of being present.

Let’s wander.

An initial deposit of $750 USD will secure your spot on the retreat. Please refer to all booking terms and conditions here.

DAY 01
Ichigo Ichie — A Once-in-a-Lifetime Encounter

Welcome to Japan! Our journey begins in Tokyo, a city where tradition and innovation exist side by side. Settle into your surroundings before gathering for our first evening together. Inspired by Ichigo Ichie, the Japanese philosophy that every encounter is unique and will never happen quite the same way again, we begin with an invitation to be present, embrace new connections, and appreciate the experiences ahead.

DAY 02
Curiosity Is the Way

Today, we discover Tokyo’s many personalities. From the lively food stalls of Tsukiji Market and the historic temples of Asakusa to the colorful streets of Harajuku, experience a city of fascinating contrasts. Take in sweeping skyline views before exploring Tokyo’s vibrant nightlife, local izakayas, and perhaps a little karaoke. A day dedicated to curiosity, stepping outside our routines, and discovering the joy of the unexpected.

DAY 03
Ma — The Beauty of Space

We leave Tokyo’s bustling energy behind and travel aboard Japan’s famous Shinkansen bullet train to Kyoto, the country’s former imperial capital. Here, life moves to a different rhythm. Inspired by Ma, the Japanese concept of appreciating the space between moments, today invites us to slow down. Wander Kyoto’s charming streets, discover traditional shops and cafés, and settle into a city where history and beauty reveal themselves in the smallest details.

DAY 04
Shinrin-yoku — Finding Harmony in Nature

Today, we explore Kyoto’s spiritual and natural beauty. Walk beneath the iconic vermilion gates of Fushimi Inari, discover the peaceful landscapes of Arashiyama, and visit historic temples and shrines surrounded by nature. Inspired by Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of immersing oneself in nature, we take time to appreciate our surroundings and the connection between people, tradition, and the natural world. A day of discovery, reflection, and breathtaking scenery.

DAY 05
Zen — The Art of Stillness

In a world that rarely slows down, today invites us to experience the beauty of doing less. Begin with an authentic Zen meditation experience, discovering the Japanese practice of cultivating awareness and presence. The remainder of the day is yours to explore Kyoto at your own pace, whether wandering through hidden streets, visiting a teahouse, or browsing local boutiques. In the evening, discover the artistry of Japanese cuisine through a traditional omakase dining experience.

DAY 06
Wabi-Sabi — Beauty in the Imperfect

Our final full day celebrates the beauty of Japanese tradition and the memories we’ve created together. Dress in traditional kimono and wander Kyoto’s historic streets, capturing the experience through a special photography session. Enjoy time to explore before gathering for an unforgettable evening immersed in the elegance of geisha culture, traditional performances, and Japanese hospitality. Inspired by Wabi-Sabi, we celebrate the beauty of fleeting moments and the stories that make every experience uniquely ours.

DAY 07
Omoide — Memories to Carry Home

As our journey comes to an end, we reflect on the moments that made it special: the people we’ve met, the traditions we’ve discovered, the laughter we’ve shared, and the unexpected experiences along the way. Omoide, the Japanese word for memories, reminds us that while a journey may end, what we take from it stays with us. Depart Kyoto with new friendships, beautiful memories, and perhaps a fresh perspective on the art of living.

Tokyo & Kyoto, Japan

Japan is a land of contrasts — where ancient temples meet neon skylines, and centuries-old rituals live alongside cutting-edge innovation. In Tokyo, the pulse of modern life beats through Shibuya’s crossings and Harajuku’s fashion streets, while quiet shrines and hidden sushi counters offer moments of stillness. In Kyoto, tradition reigns: from tea ceremonies and tranquil gardens to vermillion torii gates and historic geisha districts. Together, these iconic cities reveal Japan’s deep beauty, harmony, and cultural richness.
